What is this club?
We are the JMU Club Cross Country and Track and Field team, a running club that practices year around, with cross country and track respectively.
Are there tryouts?
Nope! We accept all runners, regardless of speed and experience! Even if you are a completely new runner, feel free to join us and try it out!
How competitive is the team?
As competitive as you want it to be! We compete to the best of our runner's abilities, but we aren't as serious as a collegiate level.
Is there a coach?
Nope, we are a student run organization! We are led by 7 students who were voted in by our club (check out the exec page for more information)
How long do we run during practices?
We probably put around 20 miles a week in during practices, but you are welcome to run as much or as little as you want.
Are practices mandatory?
Nope! You can come to as many or as few practice as you'd like! Coming to practices is encouraged, but not required by any means. If you are too busy to make many practices, we understand and you are still welcome to attend our other events
Other events? Do you guys do stuff besides running?
Yes! We are a very socially active team who has a fairly close bond. We will have pasta parties, social events, and often just hang out on the quad or at each others apartments. We also do community service activities to help those less fortunate than ourselves and to grow closer as a team.
How many races do you have each semester?
We do about 3-5 races per season, depending on what the exec board of that year decides to do.
How long are the Cross Country races?
In college, females run 6ks, and males run 8ks.
Are meets mandatory?
Nope! You can come to however many you want or choose to not go at all.
Do we have uniforms?
Yes, you can buy your uniform at the beginning of the season and keep it. We also have uniforms available to be borrowed.
If you are a sprinter, can you still participate during the Cross Country season?
Of course! We try to incorporate at least one sprinter practice a week during the XC season. Sprinters are also encouraged to still hang out with the team during this time, even if they do not want to race with us. You are welcome to do only one of the two seasons if you wish, but we would love for you to do both!
What about field events? Do we have jumpers and throwers?
We do have jumpers, and we have a couple of throwers and are attempting to potentially build up our throwing program. Check practice schedule page for more info!
Is the team free to join?
You are free to join us for the first couple weeks of practice, but afterwards you must pay dues to continue practicing with us or participate in any meets or social activities.
